An iPhone app that writes and paints picture books starring your child. You read aloud and turn the pages together.

Children aged 3 to 10. The language follows the youngest listener: short sentences for the little ones, more excitement for the older ones.

An iPhone with iOS 18 or later. Kalimo is in English and German; you can switch the language in the app.

Kalimo is free to download. If paid books come later, you'll see the price in the app before you buy anything.

The first pages are ready in two to four minutes, and the rest arrives while you read. If you like, a notification tells you when you can start.

Animals, space, the ocean, dinosaurs, dragons, knights, vehicles, dreams, the seasons or first experiences. Or describe your own idea, or let Kalimo surprise you with something your child loves.

Yes. Several children can be heroes, and you can add siblings, friends and pets. The story then follows the youngest child and the strictest settings.

Yes. Every book stays on the iPhone and can be read offline, even on a plane. A book you ask for offline starts as soon as you're back online.

Yes. In the book, use "Save as PDF (for grown-ups)". The PDF is A5, ready to print or give away.

Age, looks, favourite things and what should never come up, plus your idea for the story. It never gets names: it writes with placeholders like {{HERO_1}}, and only your iPhone fills in the names. Before the first book, Kalimo asks for your permission.

Google Gemini writes the story, Anthropic Claude proofreads it, OpenAI GPT Image paints the pictures. If short videos are on, ByteDance Seedance makes single pictures dance. All of them run through the Vercel AI Gateway. The details are in the privacy policy.

The photo is optional. It goes to Google Gemini once, which reads hair colour, hairstyle, skin tone and eye colour from it, and is then thrown away. We never store it, and it's never used to paint the pictures.

Tap the flag next to the speaker in the book and report the page or the whole book. We look at every report and turn it into a test so it doesn't happen again.

No. Kalimo creates an anonymous account on first launch, with no email address and no password.

In the app, open Settings (for grown-ups) and tap "Delete account and all data". That removes everything from the iPhone and from our server.
